The intro to Deut. says its the longest sermon in the bible...I am Pretty sure its the longest sermon EVER!
They are finally ready to head into the promised land, all the original adults that left Egypt are now gone. Moses calls them all together and starts preaching.
He reminds them of each time God led, provided, protected etc, and also reminded them of the sins, rejection of God, rebellion that occurred Over and over. I Love this statement from 4:31 "God, your God, is above all a compassionate God." Moses explained that everything God did for them was because He loved them.
7:7-10 God wasn't attracted to you and didn't choose you because you were big and important, -the fact is, there was almost nothing to you. He did it out of sheer love.
God didn't choose me cause I was going to do or be something great, He didn't pick me cause of my abilities, talents, wisdom, ...nothing... I was next to nothing. He did it out of sheer love. Each of us is chosen to be His dearly loved child...not because we are good for anything, but just because He Loves us. That is a humbling thought. It means that God didn't decide, hmmm.. think I need someone to go do this or that...oh I know... I need Stephenie for that! Nope... didn't need me, doesn't need me to do His work... He is perfectly capable of using a Donkey!!! Anything we have the opportunity to do is a blessing to us in that He allows us to help out! Hehehe Just thinking of letting the little ones "help" with projects.... we love them so we let them "help" us with a chore (and try Really hard not to get Too impatient when its messed up and takes 10 times as long to finish). I can see God watching us as we are down here, busy "doing the Lord's work", with the attitude or idea that we are really helpin' out the Lord. He's trying to tell us what and how, and trying Not to thump us on the head when we say "I know what I'm doing".
Yep that's the thought for the day. Feeling pretty small and humble...and loved!
